Trospium
A quaternary ammonium antimuscarinic, patented in 1966 and in medical use since 1974; in the United States it has been approved since 2004 for overactive bladder with urgency and incontinence. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?As a quaternary cation it barely crosses the blood-brain barrier and stays outside the brain: this is why it has been paired with xanomeline in a combination medicine, where it limits xanomeline's side effects in the rest of the body.
