Valproic Acid
A branched-chain fatty acid used as a broad-spectrum antiepileptic, as a mood stabiliser in bipolar disorder and to prevent migraine; it was first marketed in France in 1967. This family brings together the active ingredient, pharmacopoeial impurities, metabolites, labelled standards and other impurities.
Did you know?Synthesised in 1882, for decades it was merely a solvent: in the early 1960s in Grenoble, while it was being used to dissolve other molecules for testing, it was found by chance that it was the one stopping seizures.
