Leucine

An essential branched-chain amino acid, like valine and isoleucine: the body cannot make it and must obtain it from the diet. It activates the mTOR signalling pathway, which controls protein synthesis in muscle. This family brings together the active ingredient, labelled standards, nitrosamines and other impurities.

Did you know? The first sample was obtained by Proust in 1819 while studying the flavour of cheese; a year later Henri Braconnot isolated it from muscle fibre and named it leucine from the Greek leukos, white, after the colour of its crystals.
